[MCM] DDR:UK, TurtleStomp does Rock Band

June 10th, 2010

A familiar presence to regular visitors to MCM will be the DDR:UK stand, usually distinguishable by upbeat music and terrifyingly fast footwork. This expo we decided to go and check out their stand properly, having missed it last year. DDR:UK are a rhythm gaming community, and they take games and equipment to expos and conventions all over the place. They had some form of DDR, as was to be expected, Rock Band, Beatmania and Drummania all setup over the weekend.

Whilst MTTG stayed away from DDR (For good reason, you’ve not seen realistic breast physics ’till you’ve seen Daryl on DDR) we did try our hands at Beatmania IIDX, which is absolutely and utterly terrifying to play. For those not familiar with the title, I’ll just wait a minute for you to watch the following video. » Read more: [MCM] DDR:UK, TurtleStomp does Rock Band

Beat Hazard – Super Happy Seizure Time!

April 26th, 2010

I wouldn’t call myself a particularly rabid fan of Rhythm Action games. I do really enjoy a good game of Rock Band with friends and I’ll be damned if I didn’t spend hours upon hours sitting on my own in the dark when Guitar Hero II was released, but when you take a step back the genre looks a bit… well, less interactive with the music than the finely tuned note charts of the aforementioned series’. Instead of the game directly influencing the music, the music just has some effect on how the game plays.

Of course this was impossible, and whilst Audiosurf is still an enjoyable game it wasn’t what I was hoping for. Neither was Beat Hazard, a recently released rhythm action game for the PC and Xbox 360.

[Rumour] Queen to get own music game

October 13th, 2009

In an interview with the BBC (Thanks Kotaku), Queen Guitarist Brain May has hinted at a dedicated Queen: Rock Band game, similar to the critically acclaimed Beatles: Rock Band released earlier this year.

When asked about his portrayal in the upcoming Lego: Rock Band game, May was very positive. “It’s the ultimate accolade, to be portayed in Lego,” he said (Is this also hinting at Brain May joining Iggy Pop and David Bowie as playable minifigs?). “My dreams are all fulfilled now.” He went on to mention talk “going on behind the scenes” about a Queen: Rock Band game in the future. “Yes we’re into it, I think it may happen”.
