[6/3] Weekly Play #14

March 7th, 2010 by Tom 'GeneShark' Gibbard Leave a reply »

What, you thought I’d stopped doing this feature? Nononono, it just so happens I’ve only had one comment on #13 after all this time, and Weekly Play only works if you guys comment… so do so! Please? ;_;

Unfortunately, I’m currently without any consoles apart from a DS, and away from my gaming PC (Typing on a borrowed laptop, thanks Rhys) so what I’ve been playing is quite boring. Pretty much consists of over 40 hours of Pokémon Ruby, because clearly I’m hardcore. Or sad. One of those, it’s just how I roll.

And now, it’s time for your comments!

“Got Mass Effect 2 last week, completed now. Also been playing FIFA 10 again, after a long break from it. Other than that I have been quite boring.” - Jonobrow

Joe playing Mass Effect 2, FIFA 10 and in his own words, being ‘quite boring’…

I can see that this Weekly Play will go down in history as being the single most riveting piece of text on the internet, ever. Also the latest Weekly Play so far… starting to regret including a timeframe in this feature’s title…

Till next time… comment bitches!

  1. This week, I’ve been playing Borderlands :D

    I’m a soldier class at the moment buts thats only becasue Clap-Trap decided to fail on my runthrough with the hunter. (All fixed now btw Tom :P ) Not really that far through the game, just killed Sledge and got the fast transport network back online :D I need to hurry and get to New Haven so the runners wil stop killing me :( I know they’re not that difficult to kill but my revolver kills them faster so i get out of my runner and then they just won’t stop spawning next to me D:
    Only bad point would be that you can still get attacked whilst in the shops.

    Also been playing Pokemon Diamond.
    After not using a cheat cartridge to level up my Pokemon I finally took on the Elite Four etc etc

    Sorry for not commenting last week. I was playing Family Ski.
    Just not with my family. (with the college instead)
    And in real life, in Austria.
    So I didn’t get around to playing much :P

  2. Heheh, fair enough Toby, s’all good!

    <3 Borderlands, I was on a soldier playthrough when I lost my PC ;_;

    I’ve actually been gaming enought this week to post on here – clearly I don’t actually want this degree :P Although being ill has also helped.

    Anyway, I finally finished Bioshock this week, because I’m just that up-to-date. Loved it, although the gameplay kind of suffered towards the end of it when I suddenly became the invincible wrench god. Still, no problem with most of it, and full French localisation has guaranteed it another playthrough from me.

    In slightly less big-budget news, I just finished VVVVVV, and possibly the tattered fragments of my soul. For those of you who haven’t experienced it, it’s an old-school hard 2d platformer based around gravity flipping and rooms full of spikes. These two elements can, as it turns out, make a surprisingly deep game. And hard. Oh so hard. As the later areas of the game started to make their presence known, I was noticing their effects on my usual stream of gaming invective, ranging from incoherent screams to innovative new arrangements of profanity (“Fucking wanking fuckwitch” being a personal favourite), to long stretches of me simply shouting “Fuck!” in the same hopeless monotone every time I died. Which was very regularly. In my two-hour playthrough of this game, I died 782 times, of which 139 were in the same room. It’s that kind of game. But still, fantastic fun – you can get the demo for free on Kongregate or at http://www.thelettervsixtim.es/ or, as I found out, a little creative system abuse on Kong can get you the full game free.

    Right, here we go.
    Since the last time I commented on this feature, I have got a few new games. Well, new to me at least.
    I bought two games to play multiplayer against friends. Firstly, Left4Dead2, which I play with members of the MTTG community. I haven’t played this as much as I’d like; in fact not at all last week, but it seems to be just as entertaining as its predecessor. The gameplay is similar, but with the addition of melee weapons, which I tend to rely on too much. There are also new types of infected to control in verses mode.
    The second game I got was Race Driver: Grid, which I play with a completely unconnected group of friends. When I first tried driving a car in this, I just ended up spinning out at every corner. I found it difficult to get into, but when I eventually got used to the handling, it transformed into a highly entertaining racing game. Playing against my friends, I can get away with treating it as more than a racing game. When I’m not doing too well, I’ll turn around, drive the wrong way round the track and do all I can to wreck their cars when I come across them.
    Although I have both of these multiplayer games, it is the third of my new games I’ve played the most. As Grid was in the 2 for £15 section in Game, I looked for a second game. And I found Fable: The Lost Chapters, which I had heard was quite good. It is a single player RPG, in which you can choose to become good or evil. Obviously I wanted both, so I started two games and played them in parallel. I have found this game very enjoyable. Whenever no-one has been around for multiplayer, I have been advancing both my good and evil characters through the game.
    Add several online flash games to this and you have my gaming habits for the past few weeks.

  5. Yay, only commenter last week :D. As some of you may know, and others will soon, my laptop is broken, meaning I have lost nearly all contact with moretothegame, lots of change there then.

    Anywho, this and last week I have been playing the original Left 4 Dead, FIFA 10 Ultimate Team, and Final Fantasy 13, that I got for an hour last night, then had to sleep. Also got hte new DLC for borderlands, Secret Armoury of General Knoxx. I would be playing that but the recommended level for the first mission is 51, and I am currently level 40. Not good.

    Also completed FF7 for the first time last night. Can’t believe it took so long but chocobo racing is fun.
