Well hey there reader, it’s been a while. Sorry about the lack of my posting recently, I’ve been distracted, ill, studying or just plain lazy. Probably the latter more then the others, and I shall certainly try to avoid sparse frontpages for a while. (Hell, you might’ve mistakenly thought we were a movie review site only for a while, what with Stone being the only person who can keep focused!)
For those of you who don’t obsessively inhabit our IRC channel (#moretothegame on AppliedIRC <3), we’ve spent an awful lot of time this weekend in trying to get some lovely older PC games working over a virtual LAN. After Hamachi woes, Gameranger game compatability lists being different over OS’s and AoE II refusing to work on Windows 7, we’ve pretty much given in for now.
Which really sucks, because Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (With the Conquerors expansion, naturally) was, and still is, an awesome game. I spent a good period of middle school playing huge LAN games on the school’s network after the day had ended, and nothing felt better than hearing your opponent scream out in pain as their king is slaughtered after 2 hours of defending. Mwahaha!
So yes, if anyone out there has any tips on getting AoE II working over a LAN and on Windows 7, they’d be much appreciated!
Oh, and if anyone wants to give the IRC inhabitants who can get these things running a game of AoE or UT99, do pop into the channel and challenge us, we’ll be more than happy to oblige.
Now, the rest of this post is going to be nicely steered towards getting as many comments as possible. Because none of you LOVELY people left a name suggestion for this little waffle-fest. Let’s rile some feathers.
Tom’s list of things that should piss people off
1) Playing an FPS on anything but a PC with a mouse and a keyboard is silly.
2) I don’t particularly enjoy the Call of Duty games OR the Halo series.
3) Neither am I a fan of Final Fantasy.
4) Hey, 360 gamers. THE PS3 IS BETTER.

1) We discussed this yesterday, IN MY OPINION (which everyone is entitled to, just as you gave yours) It makes the game boring and easy you are just clicking on enemies how boring is that?
2) I’m not really into Halo and I am not obsessed with COD but like it.

It’s point and click! It’s like them old kiddie flash games. Just instead of clicking your favorite childhood characters and interacting with them you are shooting zombies when you click on them. So the point is even a 4 or 5 year old could be good at left for dead on PC.
You -do- know that console FPS’s use aimassist and the like, right?
Also: It’s like saying using joysticks is harder than shooting a gun in real life, which frankly, the Wiimote is closer to :P
A mouse is just more accurate, you play against the game instead of the control scheme.
Note: Analogue sticks are slower, less precise and more clumsy.
It’s not ‘skill’ when you’re using a poor set of tools, hook your 360 controller up to your laptop and I’ll sit here with my keyboard/mouse and we’ll see who can win :3
ALSO (Lol, nerdraeg) mouse controls are NOT point and click.
The mouse is locked to your crosshair, in the centre. It’s not moving independently, and environments are not a 2D desktop.
If mouse controls are point and click, analogues are fumbling around for a bit then pressing a button.
As I said in the first post it is all down to preference and opinion. There will be some who agree with you and others who disagree with you, like me.
They both have their upsides and downsides and to be honest I’m not getting into another platform war cause all talk of 360 vs PS3 is finally over now. But again that was all down to preferences over the pros and cons they each had. Stop trying to start arguments (I know you get some sort if internet related sexual thrill out of it) cause I am just going to walk away (by pushing the left stick up, not holding down the up key that is).

That ‘skill’ you speak of, that you use to move a joystick? Aimassist, Autoaim and Stickyaim. Look them up :P
Or.. choose to disable them, look at the options in the ga.. owait you don’t play on consoles
