[18/12] Weekly Play #10

December 18th, 2009 by Tom 'GeneShark' Gibbard Leave a reply »

Hello and welcome to a slightly late, but very special 10th Weekly Play. That’s totally 10 weeks you’ve make an article with your comments, guys!

I’ve continued to hammer Borderlands, into playthrough 2 with my lovely level 42 hunter. I think I’m  probably going to cry when I eventually hit the level cap… or it’ll give me an excuse to get into my other characters. Finally taken it online (A hunter with Ben’s Beserker and A Siren with Ben’s Beserker and zx/Brett’s Soldier) and it’s here where the game really shines. I’d recommend you complete a playthrough on your own before you venture online with friends who have done so, because you’ll find yourself left in the dirt as they collect scavenger parts in seconds. It’s a beautiful thing to work through the beginning Fyrestone missions with people who know them off by heart, people waiting by objectives as the mission is started, collected and handed in within seconds. Lovely stuff, gonna pick up the DLC in the new year.

Now, the other games I’ve been playing are pretty far removed from the online tech deliciousness of Borderlands. As an early Christmas present from Brett, I’ve been playing Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 on an original MegaDrive (That’s Genesis for those across the pond). Oh my, it’s lovely. Why did I ever get rid of mine?

Oh, and I had a quick spin on DJ Hero. I’ll write about that another time.

Is it time for some of your comments? I think you’ll find it is.

“This week I have been playing “Read/Watch Twilight Without Your Brain Melting”. I completed the game…just. Brain melted shortly after completion.” - MasterCheese on Twilight…

Cheese, THAT IS NOT A GAME, Silly. But yes, we all know you’ve been slogging through everything Twilight in the name of science. God speed.

“I’ve still been storming DJ Hero, up to Expert difficulty now – would like less pure rap mixes [as in, a rap song mixed with another rap song] next time, but the balance of tunes is pretty well done. Also started Bioshock, and WHAT A GAME! Why didn’t I start this sooner? YEAH, FRY, MOTHERFUCKER.

I also downloaded the epic Nirvana Rock Band DLC, and played the INCREDIBLY lacking Fairytale Fights demo from PSN, which is just a blank room, and 1:30 to kill enemies. Looks more like a concept demo. Lame. Was very close to picking the thing up in GameStation though…” - Ben Forbes on lots

I’d agree with you regarding the DJ Hero soundtrack from what I played of it, Bioshock is amazing (Comment challenge: Name games where you can shoot bees from your hands), Nirvana DLC is always good and you should definitely think about picking up the full version of Fairytale Fights, we loved it.

“I have been playing Forza 3 quite alot recently, online and offline this is one of the greatest racing games of all time. At elast the best simulation racing games. Unfortunately, seeign as the majority of people on this website have PS3’s or PCs, this is an XBOX exclusive game. You’ll never get a taste of how good this game is.
Hopefully soon i will have a funny video of me somehow flipping a car like crazy as I go round a corner.”
- Jonobrow on Forza 3

I have a 360! And Forza 3! But videos of crazy car flips are always welcome.

“I’ve been playing inFamous, I know it’s an old game but I’ve borrowed it from someone. This was released around the same time as prototype and is a similar type of game, but I can say that I do prefer this much more.” - Dazza on InFamous

“WHAT A LOAD OF MEH.” - Bumblebee Prime on Pure

Toby wrote a much longer comment discussing why Pure was meh, but it’s a little long to paste in here. Check it out on last week’s post.

“Well I went back to my DOS gaming roots this week (see the Retrocity article) and played the first Warcraft… and then realized I hate single click systems on RTS games and played the second one.

Well It’s exactly as I remember it. A simple RTS game with catchy music and lovely cel shaded graphics. Well I shall not say anymore as I think I’ll use this in a couple of weeks.” - Brett zxPie on Warcraft/2

Mm, retrocity!

Well that just about wraps up Weekly Play #10. “Also yay for the 10th weekly play about to be done.” - Brett zxPie on Weekly Play #10, I do look forward to getting your comments for the coming week! Congratulations to Dazza and Ben Forbes, winners of the Fairytale Fights Tees we had to get r- …give away this week. I’ll get those to you ayyssap.

I’ll leave you with another comment from Cheese, “I have also been playing “The Game”. Yeah, I lost.”

Yeah.

  1. But in seriousness, Borderlands too DAMN YOU FOR OVERTAKING ME! YOU SHOULD BE DOING IMEDIA TOM! Forza 3 I’m gradually climbing the ranks and have a preety nice Porsche now. FIFA 10 still. COD 4 still.
The only strange game i started playing again is Dynasty Warriors 6.
This is going to be one of my reviews coming up now I have time away from college. Along with Forza 3, Halo 3 and Borderlands.

  2. This week Ive played a little of Tom Clancy’s: End war… I think… I wasnt really paying much attention. I saw the “you can command your troops using a headset” and borrowed it off my brother.

Glad I did just for the sheer awesomeness of not having to select your troop and move to the location and hit “Go there”. All you do is hold the right trigger, talk then let go and done :D. Recognition software is damn good too, complete opposite of Microsofts XP crap which never typed what you spoke :D.

I don’t care that the troops are slow, the enemies respawn faster, the graphics aren’t that great and just as I’m about to win they WMD one of my bases then systematically destroy me.

I CAN -TELL- THEM WHAT TO DO.

It annoys the hell out of my parents which is an added upside because all they can hear is “UNIT 1 ATTACK HOSTILE 5″, “UNIT 6 SECURE LIMA” etc.

Theres only two things I wish they would fix:
1.Let me tell the troops to go to cover not having to press A everytime I move somewhere.
2.Let me have more troops please. I cant win using 6 lots of troops with their respawn rate D:

EPIC GAME altogether but only if you use the headset.
